Reign Of Terror: The Osage Indian Murders

Students will read a summary of this deeply disturbing era of Osage and Oklahoma history, including background on oil wealth, corrupt legal guardianship system, discrimination, litany of related fraudulent practices through which Osage were cheated of their money, widespread collusion and complicity, and actual murders of many Osage, followed by appalling lack of justice, causing many Osage to leave Oklahoma for fear of their lives. Students will answer review questions on these topics, including extensive vocabulary of legal, economic, and crime-related terms.
